My Data File appears to be locked.

SOLVED

When I try to open my current session of Simply Accounting I get to the point where it says OK next to the session date. When I click on OK the program disappears i.e. will not open. I have noticed a File? with a name the same as my data file. This file, is a Microsoft Access - Locking Information. I am pretty sure this is causing my problem with the data file i.e. I believe it is locked. Can anyone help?

    SUGGESTED

    Hi  ,

Thanks for reaching out.  Note that Simply Accounting is now called Sage 50 Canada. Here are some methods you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Reboot Your Computer: Start by rebooting the computer where the file is located. This can often release the lock on the file if it is simply stuck due to a software glitch.

    2. Check Multi-user Access: Ensure that the file is not opened in Single User Mode on another machine. If it is, you'll need to switch to Multi-User Mode from that machine.

    3. End the mysqld.exe Process:

      • Close all Sage 50 Accounting software instances.
      • Use Task Manager to end the mysqld.exe process.
      • Navigate to the SAJ folder and manually delete the process.pid file.
    4. Move the Data File Temporarily:

      • If the data file is on a server and you can't access the server immediately, try copying the SAJ and SAI files to your desktop and then open the company file from there.
    5. Check Sage 50 Connection Manager:

      • If you're hosting the company data, ensure the Connection Manager is installed and matches the Sage 50 version you're using.
    6. Check for Permissions and File Integrity:

      • Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access the file and that no files within the SAJ folder are hidden or incorrectly named.
    7. Resolve Potential Network Issues:

      • If you're asked for network credentials when accessing the file, ensure you enter the correct ones.
      • Check for any potential ransomware or malware that may be affecting file access.
    8. Rename the .sai and .cab Files Manually: If you have an understanding of these files and how they relate to your Sage 50 setup, you can try renaming them, but be cautious as this can cause further issues if not done correctly.

Before proceeding with these steps, ensure that you have a current backup of your Sage 50 data. If you're not comfortable with these steps or if the problem persists, it would be best to contact Sage 50 technical support directly for assistance. They may offer additional solutions or be able to guide you through the troubleshooting process more effectively. Hope this helps!

    Warm Regards,

Hi Erzsi, Many Thanks for replying to my problem with the Sage 50 data file. I actually accessed a backup file and manually brought it upto to date (it was not too painful). I suggest the likely cause from your suggestions was the

    1. Check Multi-user Access: Ensure that the file is not opened in Single User Mode on another machine. If it is, you'll need to switch to Multi-User Mode from that machine.

I think so because I was dealing with 2 computers ( an old and a new computer). Non the less you were very helpful to respond as you did. Best Wishes. David.
