Backups fail for a number of reasons.  Windows security is a big culprit sometimes.  You said you tried all the directories.  This should not be done.  If you try to backup into the *.saj folder, you will eventually have a problem.  This is almost the equivalent of locking your key in your car so you know where it is.

I don't know why the backup would not work to an external drive.  I assume it is a usb external drive or is it a memory stick?  Do you have enough room on that drive for twice the size of the backup?

What is the exact path to your files (see File, Properties) and what is the exact path you are trying to save the backup in?  If you are working in My Documents anywhere, this could be part of the problem.  If you are working in Program Files, this could be part of the problem.

Try creating a directory c:\Sage50Backup and put the backup there.  Let us know if that works.

Sorry it says "backup folder". I tried to backup to the C: drive as you suggested and it failed as well. After the backup fails Sage 50 fails or does not respond and it stops working. I have to restart the program again.

If you did as I suggested, you should not need to create a backup folder, as it already exists.  Anyway, I don't know anything else to try without looking at it myself.  So until someone from Sage or any other person has any ideas, the only thing I can suggest is to review all the knowledgebase articles about backups.

How big is the ibdata1 file? Found in the SAJ folder
