Project allocation very slow

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has encounter performance issues while trying to allocate payroll to projects/jobs in Sage 50 2013 Canadian Edition?  It takes significant amount allocate payroll across multiple jobs.  I know you can delete the jobs individually but was wondering if there is a multi-job delete feature?  Thank you.

No but if you delete the jobs, you will no longer have the reporting.  If you are trying to say that the list of projects is way too long because of all your completed jobs are showing up on the list, then inactivate the jobs that are no longer active.

By doing this, they will no longer show on the list to pick when you want to allocate to jobs and you can still report on them using the Show Inactive Projects/Jobs checkbox.  You may have 400 jobs in your file but only the current 30 that are active will show on the list.

Unfortunately this is also an individual thing.  You cannot mass update your projects as inactive using the Sage 50 intereface and you need to be in single-user mode to do it, but you can use the keyboard with one hand to hit the Alt-key sequence (I don't have the program open right now to look for the underlined letter when you hit Alt but you can do that) and the other can hit the next project forward button on the toolbar with the mouse.  Do a few each day and you will get them narrowed down.

    Thanks Richard,

These are very old projects dating back more than 10 years and can be retrieved from a backed version of the database if reporting is required.  The goal is to improve performance when allocating payroll to projects.  Currently, it is taking very long time to allocate payroll to multiple projects.  for example, if I need to allocate payroll to 10 different projects for each paycheque, there is significant wait time between each project.

So my first assumption is correct, that you have a lot of projects on your project list.

My second assumption was that when you click to bring up a list of the Projects, that the list takes a long time to show up.  If that is the waiting you are referring to then narrowing down the list to only the active projects is a method of fixing that.  So, I suggested you inactivate the older projects to accomplish it.  How did it work for you?  Is it still slow?

After trying this, if it is still slow and you do not want to remove the projects manually one by one, then you can ask Tony Martin to do it for you (www.code-six.com).
