cash to be deposited

Can you tell me how to move cash "to be deposited" to the chequing account?  This transaction was completed without creating a customer invoice so there is no offsetting transaction.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second sentence. However for the first sentence you usually post to the Cash to be deposited to record monies rec'd from customer, vendor, employee, whoever on the day you received the monies. Then when the actual deposit is made into the bank account you would do a general journal entry to credit Cash to be deposited and Debit bank account and date it the same date as the bank deposit date.

    Hope that answers your question?

On versions of Sage 50 that have deposit slips, when you enter the cash and cheques from the received account, and post the deposit slip, that will do the journal entry.

So if you do your receipts to 1053 Cash on Hand, and record your bank deposit to 1055 Cash In Bank, the program will record the journal entry for you.

In some Editions of Sage 50 you can print the deposit slip and 'Save' it (without posting), so you can re-open the deposit screen when you're back from the bank and post it.

You didn't mention which year (Version) or Edition (Pro, Premium, Quantum) of Sage 50 or Simply Accounting you're using, so I can't be more specific.

I hope that helps too, please post back and / or tag the answer(s) that work for you.

You may also want to join this webinar on bank reconciliations and deposits that Keith L posted about:

If you use the Bank Deposit functionality in Sage 50, it will make your bank reconciliations easier, (it definitely made my bank deposit slips much more legible!)

Or, are you saying you recorded a journal entry directly into the Cash On Hand account?

In that case, the item won't show up as a 'receipt' to add to the bank deposit, and the only way to record the deposit is to do a handwritten deposit, and record a journal entry as Smithco suggested.

how/can you deal with a cash receipt of 121.05 posted to the cash on hand account, but only 120.00 is deposited in the bank ?

assuming that the 1.05 was put in the petty cash box, it would be recorded in the petty cash log so you would

     db petty cash

     cr  cash on hand

but if it's not there either ??

     db  misc expenses

     cr   cash on hand

When you count the float and notice you're short a Loonie and a nickel:

                                            Dr                  Cr

    Cash Over and Short     $1.05

    Cash On Hand                                      $1.05

Or, if you're over, you could just make note of it on the count sheet, and it will end up in the next day's deposit.
