Sage 50 2014 causing Excel 2013 Issues

We've got a little 4 computer peer-to-peer network. Primarily 2 computers use Sage 50. They are new. Core i5 4th generation 8GB of RAM, Solid State Drives running on a gigabit network.

One acts as the server and the other one access the data over the network. The server stores Sage 50 data as well as Excel Data.

The 2nd station often has excel 2013 files open as well as Sage 50. Excel 2013 will stop allowing the user to access any of the fields/cells. However, it does not lock up or say "not responding". And there is absolutely no errors that show up in windows event logs of either application or system event logs.

I have googled and re-googled, but have not found anything even remotely similar to this.

The station has never had anything but Sage 50 2014 on it. The Server may have 2013 and 2014 on it.

    Hi,

Excel may be blocking editing of networked files silently, if for some reason it was convinced that the file wasn't 'trusted'.

It could be locking up while auto-saving.

Add-ins could be causing or contributing to crashes (Sage Intelligence BI Tools, XLGL, Power Query)  Something just like this happened to me 5 minutes ago, and Excel auto-recovered (ish) the data.

It isn't likely that the problem with Excel is directly caused by Sage 50.  There appears to be some direct usage of Excel when exporting from Sage 50 in the newest Excel format, exporting to the older formats works on machines without Excel at all.

If it's reproducible, or happens often enough that logging is practical, you might want to try Sysinternals Process Monitor to see what Excel is doing for all that time.

As this is a peer support forum, the advice above is from a fellow user of the Sage 50 Canadian software, and not from Sage Software.

    I hope that helps,

    Randy
