initial credit card reconciliation - forget to set opening balance

trying to reconcile a credit card for the first time, but the card has been used for over a year

I set up the c/c payable account, but left the balance as 0.00 because I had not yet seen the c/c statement

I recorded a transaction for 122.33 (example), and started the reconciliation - per the statement the starting balance is 300.00, the ending is 422.33 - which I entered in the bank rec and cleared the transaction - so the unresolved is / should be 0.00

but I'm left with a discrepancy of -300.00 and an unresolved of 300.00 - no matter why I try under 'add prior outstanding  I can't make both 0.00

what am I missing ?

Remember that this is a credit card - not a bank acct - so the balances you enter will be a negative amount. Try entering -300.00 as the beginning balance - that should clear up the discrepancy.

yes, account class is credit card payable

    with a prior o/s of 300.00 withdrawal

entering -300 as the opening balance, sets the discrepancy to 0.00 but unresolved is 300.00

clearing both 300 and 122.33, leaves unresolved of 300.00

setting ending balance of -422.33 leaves unresolved of -544.66

so you entered beginning balance as -300.00 and ending balance as -422.33. Checking off the 300.00 and 122.43 withdrawals then your rec window should show resolved of 422.43, discrepancy of 0.00 and unresolved of 0.00.

Perhap outstanding balance you entered was not outstanding as of your beginning date of Oct1?

In your first screen shot you did not have anything listed on or after Sept30/14 in the upper window.
