Sage 50 versus Multiple Users

SUGGESTED

Hi,

Our accountant has Save 50 Canadian Edition, Premium with Payroll, and we were told by tech support that we have Cloud option with the purchase we've made. And we do have the multiuser option as well.

Now, we called them back about the cloud part because we hired a part-time bookkeeper to help out the accountant.  She would like to move the files to the Sage Cloud so that they could both work on that same file at the same time instead of having to transfer the files on a memory stick back and forth (and then they can't work on the file at the same time this way).... not practical.

When we called tech support, they insist that the cloud version does not allow more than one person to edit the file at the same time, etc...  That the only way to do it is to either purchase the Enterprise version of Sage 50 or install an internal server to put the files on and network Sage 50.

It is hard to believe, in a way, that if we have a cloud option with our current Sage 50 program that it would not allow more than one user to use the file if we store it online with Sage Cloud...

Are we getting the correct information?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Léo

    Hi LeoB:

They are correct, however, if you are using Sage 50 Premium an additional individual could log-in remotely to an additional workstation or server and make entries concurrently depending upon which license you have(2-user or 4-user).

Conversely, with the Cloud edition 2 individuals can access the data but only one can enter transactions and one can view reports.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the answer

If we install it on a Windows computer to act as a server, and file "holder" so to speak, and start the server connection manager option do you know if that computer itself will need a user account license?

If you have the premium version you can install it on a server or on a workstation or both. It would be licensed to handle 2 or 4 users depending upon which option you paid for. One of the units would have to store the data files. It could be set up as a peer-to-peer network or you could have it set-up as a dedicated server network. With the peer-to-peer network Sage 50 would be installed on both units. With the dedicated server only Sage 50 server components would be installed. For the server install you would probably have 2 or more workstations connected to the server(Sage data only).

    I hope this helps!

We need one computer to hold the file (Windows 10) but no one using Sage50 app on it iself... it's like a little internal server, and then have at least two employees load their Sage50 and use the data file concurrently.  That is why I was asking if it would require us to have 3 licenses... we currently have the plan with only 2 licenses

    Hi LeoB

There is a server installation option during install (which only installs connection manager not Sage 50), so if you just do server installation on server and 2 workstation on full installation, you just need 2 licenses

    Hope this helps
