New Computer speed needed

SUGGESTED

I have the Accountants Edition and the stated system requirements are

  • Sage 50 Quantum Accounting 2019 and Sage 50 Accountant Edition 2019 System Requirements
  • Processor operating at 2.0 GHz or higher (Multiple-core processor operating at 2.33 GHz recommended)

I need to purchase a new laptop and I'm a bit confused as the latest laptops have quad core processors rated at 1.6 GHz. These seem to be less than what Sage 50 requires. I have a older laptop with duo cores rated at 2.2 GHz and Sage 50 Accountants Edition runs fine on it. A friend has a new laptop with quad cores rated at 1.6 GHz and his version of Sage 50 Premium is actually slower than my older laptop.

Can someone clear up my confusion about what speed my new laptop should be?

    Hi Terpar:

I am no expert on computers but I do know the higher the GHZ the faster the system. Also your hard drive and your RAM are factors with speed as well. One of the last factors is the quantity of data on your hard drive. The more data you have on your hard drive the more it has to look for the data you need to access.

    I hope this helps somewhat!

    Hi Agate,

Thanks for your reply! Everything you said makes sense. I think Sage needs to update their system requirements to reflect today's newest computers. The requirements are the same as from 2016 and computers have changed since then.

The latest and cheapest is not the fastest, while 1.6 Ghz x 4 cores will be faster than that minimum 2.0 Ghz single cpu and will work, I think you would find it a disappointment.  More money usually means more speed.

$500 might get you faster, higher quality refurbished system than the same money on new.

An SSD hard drive will be noticeably faster (and withstand more knocking around) than the old spinning drive technology.  It has no drive heads, so it can read data from anywhere with no delay, perfect for a database program like Sage 50.

    Hi Randy,

Thanks for your reply. Your explanation makes sense. My old laptop is still working so I'll hold off for a while before buying a new one.
