can't update Sage 2020 to 2020.1 Canadian

Question

Hello Sagians, 
 so I tried to update client Sage 2020 o 2020.1 before Christmas, the update ran through OK so it seems until you open up Sage 
 error message "Sage 50 was not installed completely. Please try reinstalling the program."

I tried update with firewall off, AV off, all windows updates applied. Note that I tried this on 2 workstations (Win 10 pro) and 1 server (Win 2012 R2). all yield the same error? 
 thank god I was able to do a repair back to working 2020.0 version in the control panel (Windows OS) 
 when I select change repair this warning comes up, just hit OK and repair works

yesterday I downloaded the Jan 6 2020.1 update and ran it manually. Same error! I did not try the hotfix because I was paranoid it will do more damage to the already not working 2020.1 update and make things worse possibly screwing up the repair option.. So once again, did the repair to go back to 2020 version 
 checked all the recent posts, seems like users are able to update OK but can't convert databases etc.. in my case I can't even launch Sage, strange all 3 system failed to update. 
 was thinking maybe uninstall Sage completely and reinstall the full Sage 2020 download. then try 2020.1 update... 
 hopefully someone here can help.

Hi Sage403 , Thanks for reaching out. Looks like your message comes up in KB 15033 which basically advises to uninstall / re-install the Full program manually. 
 If you're still having issues, some options to try include: 
 
 Re-installing Sage 50 CA version 2020 using the FULL 2020.1 version download in KB 100797 (see 260-1009020 for FR) released Jan 6, 2020

Setting Inbound Firewall Rules for MySQL on the File server, see KB 87721 for steps.
 
 @Dmaster found that for server-only installs the following rules need to be added to the Windows Firewall :
 
 C:\Program Files (x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.7.27\mysql\mysqld.exe 
 C:\Program Files (x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.7.27\mysql\mysqladmin.exe 
 C:\Program Files (x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.7.27\mysql\mysql.exe 
 C:\Program Files (x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.7.27\mysql\mysqldump.exe

Version 2020.1 uses the new MySQL 5.7.27, also see KB 10080 for which processes and ports to allow through your firewall to ensure that Sage 50-Canadian Edition will operate correctly 
 Related to third party installations that may be blocking MySQL also review the steps on KB 86048

Forgot to mention that when doing the Full install of the software to the server, you'll get the Windows Firewall auto configure screen below. Choosing yes on this screen means not having to update the rules manually mentioned above.
