Thanks for reaching out. The backup formatted in the Premium 2019.1 version would require either the same version or higher (Premium or Quantum 2019.1+). Your Sage 50 Pro 2015 version would be a lower edition version which won't be able to open an upgraded file unfortunately...

Thank you Erzsi.  I figured as much.  My next question is....if I upgrade my 2015 to the newest version available, will it open the back up or do I have to find the 2019.1 version in order to open it?

Oh, and....can I go from Pro to Premium?

Yes Erzsi's reply meant that you need at a minimum of 2019.1 Premium to open the restored backup from 2019.1.  The current 2020.1 Premium will work.

Please bear in mind that if you do upgrade the file to 2020.1 do some data entry and expect the client to continue to use the file, they will have to upgrade as well.  The files cannot go back again to a lower version.  If you only need to see reporting, you may wish to look into accessing the file on the client's computer via the internet in some way or working with someone with that version you need.

Please also bear in mind that if you do upgrade, you can but do not have to upgrade your current 2015 Pro to the current 2020 Premium.  You can still use the 2015 Pro version as long as you don't uninstall it.

If you do bookkeeping for several clients, you may wish to look into the Partner program that will allow you use a version of Sage 50 that will allow you to run Pro and Premium files of the same version and year on the same computer.  eg. 2020.1 Pro and 2020.1 Premium.
