Simply Accounting 2008- new computer install

SOLVED

My business has used Simply Accounting 2008 Canadian for the last 12 years, desktop cd version.  I just got a new laptop that does not have a cd drive.  How can I install the software on my new computer?  Sage technical support did not have a link for any old software and referred me to this forum.

Really hoping someone can help me, I have 12 years of my business riding on this.

Thanks in advance,

Sasha

    Hello

Thanks for reaching out! If you have another computer with the install on it, check the C:\Sage Install folder (this is the default location unless changed) with the files to copy over to the other machine. You could use a USB stick to bring the install files over.

I'll still mention though that security of data is extremely important, for this reason we recommend being current with all software and systems. Consider upgrading to Sage 50 CA version 2020 if possible.

    Hope this helps!

I tried the install folder with no luck.  Will look into Sage 50.  How easy is it to migrate Simply 2008 data to Sage 50.  I have paryoll as well?

I don't believe the c:\Sage folder kept the installation program for 2008.  I believe that started roughly around 2013.

You can copy the CD to a memory stick from your old computer and then copy that to the new computer to install from.  However, if you updated to the latest F release of 2008, you will still need the F update installation program to install.

Upgrading to Sage 50 2020 will require the install of the Trial version of 2015, then I would install the 2020, then upgrade a copy of the data files to 2015 then upgrade to 2020.

Please be aware that 2020 without a Payroll service plan will lock you out of the Payroll module completely so you won't be able to do any data entry in that module without at least the lowest level service plan.

Thanks for all this info.  How do I go about trying to get the Trail Version of 2015 and trying to get my files up and running on that first?

That's only needed if you plan on upgrading but you can get it from the Knowledgebase.  An article has the download link.
