Problems with converting after 2020.2 update

Question

Hi, 
 I installed the 2020.2 update and converted 2 company files without issue. The 3rd one will not open, however. I had it open right before updating. When I try to open it, I am prompted to convert the file, then an error message pops up saying Sage can't open the company file. 
 I opted to back-up the files before converting, but there is only SAI files with the SAJ folders. When I try to select a back-up, it won't let me select those, only CAB files. I looked for previous back-up files - there are only the SAI/SAJs... no CAB files at all since 2018! 
 I also tried to run from the "back-up", but come up with the same error. 
 Please help!

I had the same "Can't open the company file" after converting the company file on my computer. My client has Sage 50 CA Premium Accounting Release (2020.2) on their laptop. I have Sage 50 CA Accountant Edition (Release 2020.2) on my computer. They have 4 company files, 2 of which I was able to open with no issues, the other 2 gave me the "Can't open the company file". I tried, unsuccessfully, working from backup files and opening Sage in Administrator mode on my computer. 
 This is what I did to open the files with no problems, after reading somewhere in here that the SAJ folder may have some unwanted or corrupt files in it: 
 On the clients laptop I saved the files with a new name in a different folder. 
 I then copied the newly named .SAI files and it's corresponding .SAJ folder onto a USB drive and then copied these files/folders onto my computer. 
 I was able to open the new files with no issues.

Hi Jenn J , Thanks for reaching out! Here's a snippet from a blog called Part 2 of 2: Sage 50 CA Data Conversion Tips 
 When you launch Sage 50, right click the Sage 50 icon and select "run as administrator." This should launch a welcome screen similar to the one below. Depending on your backup format. If your backup file extension is .CAB select &ldquo;Restore from backup&rdquo;. OR If your backup folder has a .SAI file and .SAJ sub-folder with matching names choose the &ldquo; select an existing company &rdquo; option to locate the backup manually. Alternatively, if you have a sample company file open, then these options below are also available via the File menu. Hope this helps! Erzsi
