Questions about migrating from Sage 50 in an network share to Remote Data Access

Hello,

We currently use Sage 50 with Connection Manager installed on a server and multiple computers accessing the company database from a network share in that server. With Covid and our user working 90% from home over VPN it is really slow for them to work this way so we are evaluating the option to migrate to the Remote Data Access service.

- I would like to understand how will this work, can both sharing mechanisms coexist with each other?

- If they can and we just share with RDA as is, wouldn't this mean Sage 50 is still using the database out of the network share (and still super slow when remote) and at the same time sharing and synchronizing changes with RDA? and if true, what happens with other users, would this dual mechanism of sharing cause conflicts?

- Should we first move the company file to the main user computer, get rid of the network share and server and then share it using RDA from that PC?

I guess I just trying to understand how would this work and if this would really solve our problem, our users do not want to use Sage 50 through a remote desktop...

    Hi Gonzalo:

From what I have heard the network share can be an issue with RDA but don't quote me on it. You must use the 2020.2 or 2021.0 versions of Sage 50. If you have used Sage Drive previously there is a process to go through to convert to RDA. I would probably suggest trying a main computer with the data file, sharing the company using RDA and then seeing how staff find the RDA. Sage 50 must be installed on each of the remote users computers. Each user must have an email within the User setup. The owner (sysadmin) of the company data must have an email address to initiate RDA. One of the first things that happens when a user is  accessing the shared data remotely is RDA will ask you to save the data on your remote accessed computer. Do not save the data in One Drive. Try the articles below for more information!
