Windows 11 compatibility

SUGGESTED

I'm running Sage 50 Release 2014.2 on Windows 10. I've just upgraded my PC to Windows 11, what version of Sage must I have to work with all my existing Sage files and records?

  • Did you have to reinstall Sage 50 2014.2 or did the upgrade keep all the installed software?

If you didn't have to reinstall it and it doesn't work, just reinstall and see if it works.

I have one client on Simply 2008 on Win11.

Officially, I believe 2023 or 2024 is the earliest version certified for Win11.

    Hi Richard,

The upgrade didn't keep installed software, didn't know that was an option. The version I have was downloaded from Sage's website and it says it's no longer available from them. Well, it says it's retired and doesn't give me an option to download it. Do you know where I can get it from?

    Colin.

    Did you look here?

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\Download

    or in

    C:\Sage

If you get it from the c:\Sage folder, you need the PUP for version 2014.2 update that should be in the first folder above.

I found "Sage 50 Accounting Installer Files" on my C drive, copied them to my new PC, ran the installer exe and it wants my 14 character serial number. Is that what you mean by PUP? Any idea what it's called? I've looked through the folders you mentioned, nothing obvious.

PUP is the update after any full version for a given year (in the old days it was part of the Payroll Update Program - now it includes bug fixes and feature updates as well as payroll table updates).  You are using 2014.2 so the PUP you are looking for is

    SA_20142CPUP1.exe

If you install any version after this, you will lose any ability to run Crystal Reports templates directly in the program if you were doing so before.

In the image below the second one is the 2014.4 Canadian update, the first is the 2013.4 Canadian update.

The serial number and keycode combination was part of the old install and may have been put on your desktop during the original installation in a file called Sage50AccountingRel2014Activation.txt.  At the time Sage would have sent you an email with that information also.  This would include your 10-digit Account ID and Key Code as well as the serial number.

Brilliant! I'm up and running on Windows 11. Thanks for your help, Richard.

    You are welcome.

Bear in mind you may still run into some problems.  Some people have reported problems with some icons showing up properly in the program but it does not limit the functionality.

You will also have problems if you are using MS Office as a 64 bit application.  You will not be able to email directly from Sage 50 to Outlook.  You can get your MS Office installed as a 32 bit application and that will allow you to email without having to create pdfs and manually attach them to emails.
