Can't open Sage50

SOLVED

Sorry I start like that but, I'm pretty annoyed right now. I'm not a computer person, I can handle my computer but when it's about installing programs, I am not a tech person.

So I bought Sage (the smallest you can get, cause that's all I need) today in hope that this will be an easy install and I can get going. Installed the program, but that's about it what I can do. When I try to open it, it just says "Sage 50 accounting has stopped working, windows will look for a solution". So windows tells me to install NET Framework v4.0.30319. For what ever reason I can't do that either.

Anybody can help me in that? I also read in another post to ad something the notepad file...I did that too, but didn't change anything so I just erased that again.

If I can't fix it easy, I will just return that product and keep on going how I used to.

Sorry for the rant :)

You will need to provide your Sage version that you bought (this is where the notepad comes in to give you that info).

And also provide your windows version - XP? Windows 8? etc.

Once that info is provided then someone will be able to help you as best as they can.

    Hi,

I would suggest restarting the computer, then uninstall the program, restart again, and reinstall.

The default options for installation usually work, as long as the program is able to configure your firewall.

Sage 50 can't configure non-Windows firewalls or security software (Norton, etc), so if you have some such program installed, you could try disconnecting from any Internet-connected network, and turning off the firewall temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

If it turns out to be the firewall that's preventing the program from connecting to the data, you may have to set up exceptions for the Sage 50 program.

It may sound strange, but Sage uses a network connection from the computer you're using, to the one that the data is stored on, even if it is the very same computer.   This is the reason that firewalls can sometimes be problematic - it stops one part of the Sage 50 program from connecting to the part that manages the accounting data, even though the network connection is "looping back" to the same place.

    Thanks for your reply

I have uninstalled the program, restarted the computer, turned off the fire wall, reinstalled the program and rebooted. It still gives me the same message that says: Sage 50 accounting has stopped working.

When I restart the computer it always gives me the error: to run this application you must firs install one of the following versions of NET.framework v4.0.30319

I have tried to install that NET.framework yesterday and it wasn't able to install.

    What else could I try?

    Hi,

The .NET framework 4.0 is available directly from Microsoft at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17851

Usually the program installation will just do that for you.  If the web install doesn't work, there is a downloadable full version under the 'Related Resources' link further down the page that may succeed, or even if it fails, it may at least give out an error message that will be of help in finding out why it didn't install.

The Sage program really does need that part of Windows to be installed, so it will not work at all until the .NET 4 framework installs.

I believe that Sage will provide technical support for installation, they will likely have run into this problem often enough to give you some more direction.

    I hope that helps,

    Randy

I was now able to download the net framework and to install Sage 50. I registered etc.

When I select the icon on my desktop I clicked created a new company, filled everything out and finished it. That's when windows somehow shut it down again. When I now open Sage 50 and select "open existing company" it doesn't bring me to the Sage50 home window but just to a file folder.

I'm a bit confused! How do I open Sage 50? How do I get to the home window?

go into the Start button and in the search box type in .sai

Windows 7 should find it and it will show what folder it was stored in.

It's a good habit to have a folder in 'My Document' called Sage 50 and keep your data file in there.

Then within the Sage 50 make up 3 new files, one called Sage Backups, one called Year Ends, and if you have payroll then one called Payroll Years.

Every time you work on your data files always do a backup when you are finished and save it in the Sage Backups folder.

So when you open your Sage 50 folder in My Document it will contain the following:

your data files which is actually comprised two files - one called .SAJ and the other called .SAI (you need both of these in order to open your company files and never save anything else in the .SAJ folder)

    Sage Backups

    Year Ends

    Payroll Years.

Ok. Something must have been wrong. Something wasn't installed right. I had to uninstall the whole program and reinstall but now I can open the home window of my company. And I have also found all the files you mentioned and have them saved in a separate folder.

Actually the main issue came back to an issue with a system file folder that I had to rename (as administrator) to be able to download the framework. After that I also updated all my windows updates and then reinstalled the program after it was not installed right.

However, thanks for your help :) head ache is over
