    Hi Don Simon,

For your information, SA 2010 is not compatible with Windows 8 because that version of Windows was not yet on the market when SA2010 was out.

You can try the steps below and see if your problem can be resolved:

    1. Create a new windows user profile

      1. Go to Start, Control Panel, User Accounts
      2. Create an account and set as Computer Administrator
      3. Reboot computer

    2. Run sfc/scannow by:

      1. Go to Windows Start button
      2. Type on the Search Box - cmd and  Run as administrator
      3. On the screen, type sfc/scannow (this will take several minutes)
      4. Check if there are any file errors
      5. Proceed to next step

    3. Delete 1 folder

      1. for 2010 - C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\2010

    4. Uninstalled Sage 50 using registry - KB10407 (how to uninstall using registry)

    5. Reboot computer

    6. Reinstall Sage 50

    7. Try to open data file

KB10407 (How to uninstall using registry - Please ignore the first part and start by "As a lst resort........")

    Hope this helps

Keith thanks and I'm going to try this. One matter:

Will I ever after have to run Sage 50 in this new User Account?

Or do i run src/scannow in the new User Account then log out and back in to my normal account (i.e. where my Sage prig and data files are)?

i.e. when i get to your "Delete 1 folder" part, am i back in my normal user account or still in the newly created one?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Donsimon,

The problem can be related corrupted windows profile.

Suggestion is that you follow the step first to create a new windows profile.  If it works ok, go back to your own profile and run Sage 50.  If not working in your own profile, you use the new profile to run Sage 50.

Please keep in mind that the data and software are 2 separate pieces.  As long as your data file is not located in a specific user's documents, it will be ok.  For example, C:\folder can be a location that everyone using the computer can access to.

    Hope this helps.

My experience with a corrupted windows profile is basically do NOT use the profile anymore. It helps eliminate any future issues with the corrupt profile because you do not use it any longer. The corrupt profile does not only just affect Sage 50 it is other programs as well.
