Migrating from Peachtree 2009 to Sage 50 2014

SUGGESTED

I have been using Sage Peachtree 2009 for a number of years but have been having issues with it now that I am running on Windows 8, which it was not designed for.  So I have installed Sage 50 Pro 2014.  How do I import the data from the old program to the new?  The import wizard has lots of competitors programs that it can import (Quickbooks, Quicken, MYOB) but no mention of other Sage products.  The Peachtree backup files are a .ptb extension which doesn't seem to be recognized by Sage 50 - it is looking for either .sim or .cab.

Any help appreciated.

Peachtree is a US product.  It sounds like you have purchased the Canadian version of Sage 50.  The two are not compatible, sorry.  You cannot convert the one to the other by opening it.  You will have to create a brand new file with just opening balances and see if you can import the ledgers using the help files.  Either that or if your intention was to purchase the US version of Sage 50, then you should call Sage on Monday.

That's a bit of a mystery - they were both purchased as packaged products from the same Staples store in Canada, 7 years apart.  I don't know why Sage would have been selling a US product in Canada.

Peachtree is a US version - and this forum is a Cdn forum. Did you buy the Cdn version of Sage 50 Pro?

I have had one client using the Peachtree program but it is because they owned a US-based company and did the books here in Canada.   I've never seen it here at Staples but maybe 7 years ago.  However, just because they have sold two products that are owned by the same company, doesn't mean they are compatible.

Simply Accounting is now Sage 50 Canadian, though with the 2014 version they took the Canadian version out of the name.  Peachtree is the Sage 50 US version.  Because the original programs were not the same programs, the current versions are also not compatible.  The easiest way to check to see which version you have is to check the spelling of the Paycheques icon.

Peachtree, DacEasy, DacEasy 'Instant', Business Visions, etc. all were sold in Canada.  Not all of them had payroll support, some of them were kind of orphaned.

There's even another, completely different, UK version.  I think it used to be called 'Sage Accounts', and then 'Sage LIne 50'.  Guy Berruyer changed the 3 Sage product names a couple years ago, but the products remain as interchangeable as the Dove bar that's chocolate, and the one that's soap.

About all you can do now is either:

    1. export as much data as possible, and import that into Sage 50 Canadian, or

    2. Acquire an older (compatible) computer.

    Hi Skylang,

Sage50 Canadian has import feature - accounts, customers, vendors List(s) which are required to be in specific format. When you click import/export from File (top-left corner, when you are in Sage50 program).

You can export from Peachtree and re-format per Sage50.

If you wanna import transactions, either you go thru development tool or 3rd party Sage Partners.

    Thanks,

Sage does have import of some transactions:

General Ledger transactions can be imported

Sales transactions - Sales Orders and Sales Invoices can be imported.

Purchase Transactions - Purchase Quotes and purchase Invoices can be imported.

For payroll, only time slips can be imported.
