Sage 50 Accountants 2016.1 slow to load on Windows 10 Pro x64 - why?

Anybody else with this problem - takes 2-3 minutes for the Home Screen to appear.  HP desktop unit with Intel Quad Core Q9505 - * GB RAM

  • That's 8 GB RAM, not * GB!

Perhaps you could indicate where your data file is located is it a Local Drive or Network? If a network are you connected with Wireless or Ethernet? Are you running an antivirus program and what version is it? Is the database location excluded from real time scanning? Are there any other programs that load in the background? How big is your data file directory? What is your free memory on the computer? What is the setting for the buffer size for the Sage 50 Connector?

There are many other things that could be affecting the performance of the software!

The 2 or 3 minutes time is measured from what point in time, is it from the time you launch the program, or some other point in time. Also are you using a regular hard drive or a solid state drive, if a regular hard drive when was the last time you checked it for fragmented files?

Actually with a timer going it took 4:23 minutes to load the file to the point where I could work on it. This from from the time I clicked on the .sai icon. The file is located on a local drive on this machine. The antivirus program is Windows Defender which is part of Windows 10. I suspect that the database location is subject to real time scanning as are all files on the computer. Any programs that load in the background have already loaded before Sage 50 is executed. Data file directory is 69.1 GB (all Sage data files.) Each data file is resident in its own folder. The data file used is 248 MB. Buffer size for the Sage 50 Connector is 125 MB. Available free memory is 4.4 GB. Note that I did not have this problem with Windows 8.1 Pro. I moved the file to the desktop - took 5:03 minutes and subsequently to a near empty partition - took 4:57 minutes. Your help is appreciated.

Have you had a look through the articles in the Knowledgebase regarding slow opening of the program?
