Sage 50 Compatibility with Office/Outlook 2016

We purchased new computers that came with the newest version of Office (Office 2016) which is not compatible with Sage 50 2016.  First, will the new version of Sage (17) be compatible?  If not, when will the compatibility be addressed?  I was informed the issue has something to do with Office/Outlook 2016 being on the cloud.  It is imperative that all our computers are able to email from Sage 50 so we have only limited use of the new computers until this issue is resolved.  I am hopeful there are others who are experiencing the same thing so that this issue will be addressed sooner than later!

  • Microsoft has a gazillion 'flavours' of Office, and just to make it extra confusing they use terms like 'Click-to-run' to mean several different things, and the features change (mostly disappear) from products with the same name

If Outlook 2016 is the 32 bit version, and it is actually installed on the computer (by that I mean, you can unplug the network cable, and still look at yesterday's email) it should Just Work.

As a test, I tried Outlook 2016 Home, Home and Business, Pro, etc, etc. and sent emails with no problem. E1 or 'Office 365 Essentials can't work, because it isn't installed.

If Outlook is not installed, or is not the 32 bit version that Microsoft recommends, it cannot possibly work with the current version of Sage 50. Future releases will include a 'Connector' that will imitate a web browser and connect to some 'web-only' email systems.

If some part of the installation of the 32 bit version didn't go right, Sage 50 can't 'see' it, and it won't work. The easiest test is to open Sage 50 (with the sample file, or any file, it doesn't matter), click on Help | About, click the DLL column, and check for MAPI32.DLL.

If MAPI32.DLL is not there, it didn't load. Your vendor needs to make it so that it *will* load, and you should accept no excuses.

The above is provided free with no warranty whatsoever. I have no association whatever with either Sage or Microsoft, other than using products made by those companies.
