Flat rate times in services

Hi folks. I'm using Sage 50 premium Canadian ed. I work in an auto shop where labour costs are based on flat rate times.  Can I save those flat rate times as a service inventory item? For example, if I save the job "oil change" in inventory, can I save the associated flat rate time with it (.3 hours)?  This would enable me to enter oil change in the item field and the flat rate time, and correct amount would automatically fill.

Before you ask, I have gone to the services tab in inventory, ensured units set to hours, entered flat rate, entered the flat rate amount for this item.  The system doesn't recognize it and just fills in $80.00 under price (which is the cost of an entire flat rate hour).  Nothing is entered in the units column or the cost column.  Any ideas where I'm in error?

Thanks

Adrian

Set up your item as Oil Change - Labour with unites set to Hours and an hourly rate of $80. Sounds like this is done! Then on the invoice enter the code for Oil Change - Labour and the Quantity would be point three (.3). This will give you a charge of $24.00 for the oil change.

Thanks Alwyn.  I appreciate your response!    What you suggested is what I currently do, and it does work.  However, what I'm looking to do is have sage calculate the labour automatically so I don't have to enter it every time.  I want to set the hourly rate as 80.00, make the flat rate charge 24.00 and have Sage do the rest.  According to what I read, I should be able to do such, but it's not working...

    Thanks again, Adrian

The only option I am aware of at this time would be to change the units to each and make the rate $24.00. When you enter Oil Change - Labour the line would require a 1 in quantity and the rate would be $24.00.

In Sage 50 the program always requires the number of units (Quantity) to multiply the rate per unit (Price) by to arrive at the Amount.

If the Oil Change is a standard invoice why not set one up and save it as recurring. Then when you bring the recurring entry back you would change the customer name and address and the date, everything else would be there for review before posting.

    Good plan.  Thank you!
