That's a good idea.  I had the same idea and tried it earlier today.  The new inventory account worked.  I will transfer the balance from the old account to the new account and begin to add the existing inventory items and quantities.

But I wish I knew why the original account wouldn't work...

Sorry to inform you that we are unable to tell.  Based on your description, I do not see anything incorrect of the setup.  It may be that account is corrupted.
