T4's and summary printing with wrong font and mis-spaced characters.

For the past few years, Sage has not been able to print T4's properly on plain paper.  I don't want to hear that I have to dig into the bloody bowels of Windows and change a setting.  That's not how things are supposed to work.  I have tried about 8 different printers and had the same results on each.  However,  I use the Accountants Version.  If I copy my client's data to my version, the T4's look like garbage.  If I print at their office, using their non-Accountants Version, the T4's print fine - just like they're supposed to on the Accountants Version. Two years ago, we had to enter data for 50+ employees in AvanTax, which actually delivers what they promise.  This was just wasted hours.  Sage should be recognizing the problem and fixing it instead of trying to deflect the blame.  All I want is an accounting package that can produce the reports it advertises.  I have used Sage since its beginnings as Simply, and I'm getting fed up.

Harley: It is too bad that you are so negative. I have been using Sage 50 and its predecessors going back to Bedford days. I have very seldom run into a problem with printing the government forms. There use to be a problem if using the pre-printed forms but that was resolved with the use of plain paper and printing the complete forms. About eight or nine years ago there was a small problem with a real old dot matrix printer but that was resolved with a newer inkjet. I have just run 46 forms on my HP Office Jet 100 Mobile L411 printer with no issues. Since seeing your message I also tried my HP LaserJet Professional M1217 with no concerns. Yes, I am printing from Sage 50 Canadian Accountants Edition. I agree with your comment, all I want is a program that can deliver and for me on 2017.1 it is Sage 50 Canadian.

Now to get a little more serious. Which version of Sage 50 Canadian Accountant Edition are you using? 2016.3 ---2017.1?
Which printers have you tried to print to? Which Windows OS are you using? Have you customized any 'unusual' settings in Windows?
All of these answers will provide a better opportunity to arrive at a reasonable suggestion to solve the problem.

I'm finishing testing T4, and everything is OK. I also use accountant version 2017.1. I set PDF creator as my default printer. After I print on paper. I used to do this since I can reprint a T4 if an employee tells me he had lost his.

    Hope this helps

Your troubleshooting has eliminated the software itself as an unfixable problem.  It hasn't eliminated the settings for the 'Sysadmin' account vs. any other account, and all the settings on the client's system.

There is only one 'version' of the software.   The thing that's different between the Accountants' Edition and the other Editions is the licence that enables additional features.

The changes that are intended to make Windows increasingly secure and easy to play X-Box type games, make it harder to use for basic accounting, and nearly impossible to troubleshoot.  The add-ons and additional software that everyone needs to do more than basic web browsing also can have side effects.

Anything that can manage fonts... obviously can interfere with fonts.

No, things are supposed to 'Just Work', like they did on your client's setup - and I would imagine your client clicked on 'install' and then 'next', 'next', and 'OK', and it Just Worked.  I would also imagine that your office setup is different, and more complicated, and a bear to troubleshoot.  If you were to take a new laptop from a store, install *ONLY* the Sage 50 software, and connect it with a USB cable to a printer, I would bet a fair chunk of money that it would work.  We can draw a circle around that, and know the problem is outside it.

Others had what sounds like the same problem last year:

I feel your pain, unfortunately without access to your system I can't help much.  Except to re-iterate that the cause of the problem is in... Your. System.   Not inside the Sage 50 software.

I hope that helps, please post back.

I have 2016.4 & 2017.1. Windows 7 pro. We have 7 computers in our office, 8 printers. HP, Brother, & Lexmark. Sage T4's and T4 summaries are the only thing that won't print as it should. We use many other programs without encountering problems. I've used Simply since the beginning, just after Bedford. Always found it to be rock solid. Recommended it to anyone who would listen. Although tech support is not of much use. When I called last year about this time, tech support told me it would be fixed with the next update - in JUNE. T4's are due the end of February. But this is really upsetting. I don't have the time now to be spending non-billable hours on something like this. I've invested well over 20 years in Sage/Simply and I'm comfortable working with it. I absolutely hate looking at product demos only to find they can't deliver on their ads. Years ago I used MYOB. It's back now under another name. Might be time to look around. But not until October when things settle down.
