Transition from manual Payroll to Sage Payroll

SUGGESTED
Posted By FormerMember

Hi everyone,

I have been using spreadsheet and online Payroll Calculator from CRA to keep track of all the payroll and and post one Payroll journal entry at the month end.

As the number of employees is getting larger, it becomes too time consuming to perform payroll calculation manually.

I have purchased the Payroll function from Sage and I am planning to go automatic payroll in October...or maybe January next year.

Is there a way to post each employee's YTD data into Sage?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi

Do you have a Sage data create already or you going to create one?

When you create a new Sage 50 company, automatically you are in Historical mode, which allow you enter historical balance.

Here is an Sage KB 11631

Keep in mind that if you are adding the details for each employee YTD you will also need to reverse the journal entries you have posted so far this year to record the same information or that will be reflected on your books twice.

If you are no longer in historical mode for payroll, your alternative option would be to post the paycheques one by one back to the beginning of the year. You could also post one paycheque that captures all the year-to-date information in one transaction but that could make a mess of your bank rec depending on how the individual withdrawals have been posted to the bank. If you use a clearing account it would be less of a concern.

A single post for each employee will cause miscalculations for the deductions and will not set the CPP amount correctly for future pays. You indicated that you might wish to start on January 1, 2018, and I think that would be in your best interest.
