Importing Payroll from Ceridian Powerpay

SOLVED

I am trying to set up Payroll on Sage. I am a new customer.

Can I use Sage 50 when I am subscribed to a non-Sage payroll service instead of Sage Business Payroll?

We are a registered charity run by volunteers and we have 2 paid staff.  Both staff are part time with sometimes fluctuating hours.  Our staff might get up to 5 or maybe 7 max. in the summertime.

We are already subscribed to a payroll service called PowerPay that is offered by Ceridian https://www.ceridian.com/ca  and we do not want to change.
When I purchased Sage 50 a couple of days ago, I was advised that payroll for 2 to 5 employees would not be too difficult as I understand accounting principles and worked for the Government.
After going through the various help modules and FAQs, I am convinced there is a steep learning curve for me in learning payroll.
We had a mixup with WSIB a couple of years ago and I do not want to go through anything like that again.
I am doing the work of a bookkeeper as best I can with help from an accountant,
and another volunteer who supervises employees is managing payroll by advising Ceridian who is on staff each month, how many hours they worked and if pay levels change, etc.
Our auditing firm has been doing the accounting with inputs of all expenses, revenues, etc., and the amount of my work should be the same if I enter directly into Sage 50.
I have no interest in rocking that boat and immersing myself in the arcane business of HR policy, T4s EI CPP vacation pay and all the rest.  Our other volunteer who does the payroll is not interested in learning more about the details of salary administration, either.
Can I keep the Ceridian payroll service and use their output in SAGE? They (Ceridian) told me they can set up an "Excel Journal Entry Intermediate" that is an "Accounting Export".  I think this is montthly, not one-time.  I will be checking that on Monday when Ceridian's offices are open.
It appears on the surface that SAGE will only accept input from their own Sage Payroll Service, and not from other payroll services, but I am not sure. They show instructions for importing CSV files for payroll (employee lists), but I don't know if that is the same as an "Excel Journal Entry Intermediate" that is an "Accounting Export".
Can you clarify whether I can stay with Ceridian and Sage?
Thank you!

For thee small number of employees there is no reason to switch from Ceridian to Sage 50. To use Sage 50 Payroll you must have at least a Silver level Support Plan. Since everything is already on Ceridian and you have the process in place why change?

I have worked with the PowerPay plan from Ceridian using the reports that are available. I use the first page of the reports which provides the amount of the withdrawal from your bank and it provides Ceridian's charges for the period and G/HST. I also use the Journal Entry that you have to trigger before the Payroll is processed. These couple of pages provide all of the detail you require to make general journal entry in Sage 50 to record your payroll. You do not need to set up the payroll module in Sage 50. If your contract provides your WSIB premium amount you would now be complete. Our plan did not provide WSIB premium so I created a simple spreadsheet to capture the total payroll amounts for all divisions, subtracted the pay for those who were exempt from paying and used the company rate to calculate the premium. the calculations had a running total of the premium amounts for the quarterly amounts to pay to WSIB. For a staff of 30, payroll took less than 10 minutes to enter in Sage 50 with the WSIB calculated for the period. Someone else processed the payroll with Ceridian. This worked well for the past 18 years. Recurring entries are a real time-saver for entries like this.

Sounds great. Not having much "in the weeds" experience, I expect a little difficulty, but I think I can make it work with some help along the way.

I am greatly relieved we will be able to use Sage as our accounting software, which was recommended by folks we trust for our needs.
