Source Deduction Payment entry

SUGGESTED

Hi, I am new to SAGE 50 Canadian version. After every payroll cycle we pay source deductions to CRA. My question is how to do the entry on SAGE for this payment. We already have a line item as 'payroll receiver general'. Should I directly record it as a payment directly or pay later first?

you can pay it directly through your bank online.

Depending upon how you have set up your remittances in Sage 50 will determine which method to use. I usually create an accounts payable invoice for the Receiver General for the payroll and date it for the pay period end date (PPE) and post to the various payroll payable accounts (EI, CPP & IT). Once posted and payment is 10 or 15 days after the PPE date or 15 days after the prior months payroll I would go to Accounts Payable Payments and create the payment to the Receiver General for whatever amount(s) that are due by cheque, direct debit, bank transfer, etc..

There is another method which can be setup in Sage 50 to handle all of your payroll related remittances using Setup, Settings. Payroll and Remittance.

    Hi

to make things so much easier Sage 50 has its remittance module, as long as you have the correct GL accounts linked, this is the way to process the payment

it will also show you what is outstanding for the period you refer to, setting up the linked accounts from the start is so important to make sure your calculations are correct and recorded properly

    hope this helps,

    Hi,

Although the first method you indicated is possible to do, this adds so many more steps to the unnecessary remittance process.

Using the modules if your accounts are set up correctly is much more efficient and has less chance of errors. These modules were created so that the software works for you and is not meant to add more steps.

Just an opinion, everyone can do as they wish...
