Will the January 2024 payroll update affect December payroll transactions?

SOLVED

I have some paycheques that will be dated Dec 31 (for employees December wages), and some January 1 (we pay salary on the first day of the month for the coming month).  If I install the payroll update, will it affect the Dec 31 cheques in a way that it shouldn't?  Or will Sage automatically do the correct payroll calculations depending on the date, even if the January payroll update has already been installed?

    Hi  ,

Thanks for reaching out! The January 2024 payroll update will only affect transactions for 2024.

Your December 31st paycheques will process based on the 2023 information, and January 1st paycheques will apply the new 2024 payroll calculations.

Sage 50 applies the correct payroll calculations based on the cheque date, so even with the update installed, your December cheques will remain unaffected. Note that it's always best to back up your data before installing any updates, just in case.

For any further details or help, don't hesitate to reach out.

    Warm Regards,

Actually, it did affect my QPP on employees over 72 and I didn't notice it until yesterday when I moved the file into the 2024 year and checked the calculation against last year's.

The employee has now 2 cheques without QPP deduction that were done after I updated.  Now I'm not sure how I will fix this as the employee has already received their cheques.

I just tried it in another file and it did the same thing, it will stop calculating QPP over 72 even if it's a paycheque of 2023.

Everything else seemed to calculate the same.

I don't know QPP but CPP stops after you are 70 I think by law.  I can't remember the exact rules but I thought it was stopped in the month after turning 70.

Yes, CPP is a bit different I guess.  They are just changing the limit to 72 as of January 1, 2024 for the QPP. However, the payroll was calculated last year before Christmas and it already adjusted for the QPP age limit which is incorrect.

I just tested it with another client and changed their birthdate and it is still not deducting QPP for a cheque made last year if they are over 72.  I just have to manually enter it now but I'm glad I noticed this glitch before I processed more payrolls.
