Severance pay

SUGGESTED

Hello,

I must set up severance pay for an employee, I followed this article (https://ca-kb.sage.com/portal/app/portlets/results/viewsolution.jsp?solutionid=221924950016814) but sage gives me the following message "for the incomes you have modified, your changes will remove the tracking of insurable hours from your employees ROE forms and payroll records".

This does not make sense because insurable hours tracking is useful for ROE. We give those as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi  ,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand you've followed the guidance for setting up severance pay and encountered an issue with the message stating it will remove tracking of insurable hours from your employees' ROE forms and payroll records.

This seems to be a conflict between severance pay setup and insurable hours tracking. As per the article, insurable hours are not recorded if an employee is not paying EI premiums. However, for severance pay, the steps provided are correct and should not typically affect insurable hours tracking.

    Here's what you can do:

    1. Verify that EI premiums were indeed calculated for the paycheques in question. If they weren't, this is why the insurable hours would not appear.
    2. If EI premiums should have been calculated, use the 'adjust' function on each affected paycheque to add the correct hours to the Income tab.

If after these steps you still face issues, it could be a specific software error or a step missed in the process, and we might need to look deeper into your setup. Please make sure you've followed the steps to create a new income for severance pay exactly as described, including consulting with your accountant to ensure compliance with CRA regulations.

If the problem persists, could you provide us with some screenshots of your payroll setup for the employee in question? This will help us diagnose the issue more accurately. Chat with support here if needed.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi
