Bank Reconciliations - Do I need to use the SAGE 50 features?

SOLVED

I have never used the SAGE 50 Bank Reconciliation features, so I am wondering if it makes any difference how the Bank Rec. will be done.

Would it be OK if all adjusting entries are posted in the General Journal? Would this have any implications on the Sage 50 Bank Rec. features if I decide to use them in the future?

Thank you!

    Hi Bigcougar,

The bank reconciliation feature is a tool helping you to do your monthly bank reconciliation a bit easier, together with the bank rec. report that you can generate after you post it.  It is not a must that you have to use it.  It is just another option that you can use if you are tired by doing your bank rec. by pen and paper or you would like to try something new from the current software you are using for your bank rec. like the Excel.  The basic idea of doing the job is the same.  Again, it is only another avenue that you can walk on to get the same result.

You can give it a try first by following the Knowledge Base article below

How to setup the bank reconciliation? - KB 10310

As long as the adjusting entries touching the bank account that you want to do bank rec. on, it will show up for you, ready to be cleared under  the Deposits or the Withdrawals column.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Keith,

I was thinking that each transaction has a toggle "Cleared" field, which is only accessed through the Bank Reconciliation interface.  Hence if I do not use the interface, the transactions will not be cleared in the system and this would affect future reconciliations.

I will give the Bank Reconciliation feature a try.  Hopefully it will work as expected.
