Are you login as sysadmin and single user mode with all other windows closed?

if yes, then most likely, you have enable to "post to future year option" (where is available in Premium or higher) and post in future Fiscal year.

If you did post to future fiscal year then that transaction will prevent you from changing year end date, you options are go to backup before the post or call support.
