To address this issue, you might consider creating a custom solution using ODBC to handle longer reference numbers. You can access the database structure, which will assist you in understanding the tables and fields within Sage BusinessVision, by following these steps:

1. Click Start, go to All Programs, find Sage BusinessVision, and double-click on Database Structure Help.
2. Alternatively, navigate to the C:\BusinessVision\Help folder on your server or main computer and double-click the BusinessVision Database Structure Reference.chm file.

This reference will allow you or your developer to see the database schema and might provide a way to customize your reports or data access to accommodate longer reference numbers.

We also recommend reaching out to our support team for assistance in case there has been an update or workaround since your initial post. They may also be able to help if a software update has addressed this limitation.

We are capable of editing and maintaining this field via the database and/or custom 3rd party tools, however this is a cumbersome and time consuming process, not to mention a security risk of allowing others access to the database unnecessarily. 

This would be a simple fix for the Sage development team to open the field limit from 10 characters to it's normal field size of 25 characters. This seems like an oversight that could be quickly remedied. Please review and forward to your dev team to include in the next patch.

We have been BusinessVision customers for 30 years. It would be appreciated to see a small amount of effort put into improvements of the software.
