Changing Inventory type from Normal to Non-Physical

SUGGESTED

Hi

Is there anyway to change an already created item number from Normal to Non-Physical?  Or do I have to recreate the item number again?  Past employee create items that are consumables and should not be inventoried and wish to correct this.

Thanks

    Hi  ,

Thanks for reaching out with your question. Note that it's not possible to change an existing inventory item from normal to non-physical in Sage BusinessVision; the system does not provide a direct method to alter the inventory type once the item is created. However, you can effectively transition the item to non-physical by ensuring all its quantities (onhand, committed, backorder, on-order) are zeroed out. This won't change the inventory type designation within the item's details but will stop tracking quantities going forward, mimicking a non-physical item's behavior.

Here are the steps to ensure all quantities are zero:

    1. In the inventory module, open the item.
    2. Check and adjust all quantities: onhand qty, committed qty, backorder qty, on-order qty, re-order point, min order qty, to show 0.
    3. If the item is part of any open sales or purchase orders, you will need to remove the item from those orders.

Please remember, if the item exists on any open orders and you adjust the inventory to zero, the item will be treated as a non-stocked item on the order.

If you wish to have the inventory item's type shown as non-physical for clarity in the system, creating a new non-physical inventory item may be the cleanest solution. For future reference, here's the process to create a new non-physical item: How to create non-physical inventory item.

If you require further assistance or have other questions, feel free to reach out.

If this helps please mark it as verified :)

Thank you Erzsi for the information I had thought that is what we would have needed to do.
