Business Vision Bandwidth Requirements

Hi, I was just wondering what the recommended bandwidth is for running Business Vision POS for a store for 3 or 4 terminals

Hello - Are you planning to run this over Terminal Server? if so a standard high speed connection of 10Mbps or faster should do.

Yes Running over terminal services, we are having some issues with dropped transactions and I am pretty sure it is boiling down to the connections being insufficient

If you are running on Terminal Server, you are essentially working at the server itself, so if your connection drops your session should still be active. Therefore if you are processing a transaction and your connection drops, the session continues and whatever was processing at the time should complete. If it drop and you re-establish connection you should see BV still running and in the same module when the connection dropped. Can you provide more information on these dropped transactions? Can you see the sales in Sales Analysis? Was a GL  transaction recorded? Inventory quantities correct?

When a drop transaction occurs the user usually sees a message saying the control file is in use or file busy etc.. The sales will be in sales analysis but no invoice number and there is no GL transaction recorded

Base on your error message, the drop connection is between the file server that hosts your data and the terminal server itself. This is not caused by a dropped terminal server session. My suggestion would be for your network administrator to diagnose the connection and stability between the file server and terminal server.

the file server and terminal server are on the same physical unit just virtualized. I think the connection and stability cannot be any better than this. I think perhaps we are reaching the limits of Business Vision as I have not heard of another retail setup with 50+ terminal service users and 12 of these being POS clients
