Can't open older BV data with BV2014

I am currently running BV 7.71 and would like to access my old archive files that go back to 2010.   When I click the BVCONFil file I get the error message "the file selected is not a BV control file".     I have ensured that pervasive gateway is set correctly and that the file folder is named correctly.    I have copied current data into the same folder and it opens fine.

Shouldn't I be able to open older data and then run through the conversion process?

    If you were using BV in 2010, you should be able to access that information from your present data. Mine goes back to 2007 as I believe that this feature was brought in with version 7.2. Go to your GL and key in the account number. Next, select the History tab. Here you can drill down into the activity of that account over many years.
