Sage Business Vision and Outlook security warnings

This really isn't on Sage's end, but has anyone attempted to and maybe had any luck disabling the Outlook security warnings that pop up? The specific environment I'm looking at for the moment is a Windows 2008 Server RDP setup using Microsoft Security Essentials with Outlook 2003. This is the official MS article about the security prompt, which isn't really helpful.

What happens quite often is the user will post an invoice where the Customer has invoice emailing set, and sometimes the outlook confirmation pops up in the background and they don't notice it. In this situation BV and any reports it opened to screen will simply appear to be frozen. If they don't notice the outlook prompt and forcibly close BV instead, then at this point in the transaction process the Sales History has been created but the GL and AR transactions have not been posted... I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain that's what happens. This generates the data validation error where you have Sales History with no GL/AR, and the user probably won't notice it until they try to invoice.

I'm letting my clients know about this but it would be so much easier if I could just disable the security warning for BV on Outlook, I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and had better luck than I've had. Guess it would also help if BV could post the GL and AR before trying to send the email.

  • I have had many of my BV clients email with Outlook 2003 with NO problems for many years. The problems really occur with Outlook 2007 and beyond when the security was tightened up. I think the issue is with MS Security Essentials and not Outlook. Have you tried dis-abling it to see if it still causes the problem?
BTW if you get BV Essentials Limited Edition (free) it has a much more advanced email process than BV.
  • I want to bump this question, I'm still having problems across multiple customers, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's outlook 2003 or 2010. Simply put, the Yes/No prompt to allow outlook to send an email is a nuisance, and if the user thinks BV is stuck and forcibly closes then it causes a data validation error (Sales history with no GL/AR).

Edit: Actually we just got Office 2010 installed on the server where it was the biggest issue, and logging in as admin there's a Trust Center option where you can turn the message off. So I think I'm good here.
