When it comes to starting your sustainability journey as a business, putting a focus on reducing waste, improving the lifespan of products, and finding ways to recycle and repurpose materials is a great place to start. Watch this video as John Khoo, Head of Sustainability (Europe & Asia) at flooring manufacturer Interface explains how they became a carbon neutral company by reducing waste and improving the lifespan of products.

  • It was very interesting to her John's views on how their sustainability journey has changed over time. The legislation, advice and targets mean that sustainability within a business is a continuous journey of challenge and change and no longer just a 'trend' as it has previously been described.

As an SME, it can be difficult to keep up to date with all of the policy, legislative and best practice changes as well as knowing what to publicise and what not to publicise.

  • It’s great to see the journey Interface started and how it benefited their business.

It’s also interesting to see how John notes that being sustainable gave them an edge against their competitors.

  • It's great to hear how Jon's company was not only aiming to be carbon-neutral but also actually looking to offset.

I think the belief of a destroyed world being bad for business was a good analogy.

One message I heard that hit me hard was about humanity being a race that wouldn't save themselves due to it not being financially beneficial but I think Jon's point makes a great counterpoint to this.
