Is there any specific operations or precautions that need to be carried out before installing SQL 2014 Service pack 2 on a server that has an installation of Sage Extra 2016?

SUGGESTED

I have a Windows Server 2012 running SQL 2014 Service Pack 1. Sage 200 Extra 2016 version 19.0.1.0 is installed on this SQL instance

Can I just apply SQL Service pack 2 to this server or will this damage/destabilize the Sage 200 installation?

eg

Are there any updates to Sage 200 Extra 2016 that need to be carried out first?

Are there any configuration changes needed for Sage 200 2016 to run on SQL 2014 SP2?

Rule of thumb is the installation of SQL service packs shouldn't cause any issues with any SQL databases. You wont need to change anything SQL or Sage side, just install the service pack.

When i worked at Sage, a guy who used to work in R&D always recommended you were on the latest SQL service pack. They may not have tested Sage200 specifically with a later service pack, but there will be essential fixes in it that may improve performance and the like.

Of course, a precautionary backup of the data is recommended first. The only time you need to be wary is for full installs of SQL. Either way, if in any doubt, check with your business partner.
