Business Intelligence - Restricting Access

To be able to restrict access to which cubes BI users are able to report on.

Currently users have to given full access to all BI reporting data, even if available reports are restricted they are still able to create new reports on any data cube.

  • It's possible to restrict the data (dimensions) in the Sage 200 BI cubes to windows users or groups of users - using MS analysis database via the MS Data Tools (open the database and add roles)

  • I remember taking the Sage business intelligence development course a few years ago & it is possible to restrict access to every item within the analysis services cube. Each table, or even field can have a security permission set based on a windows account. However that has to be done manually on each cube & as per the course once a cube is modified you are responsible for it from that point onward. Analysis services is now looking a bit long in the tooth, as is BI which I suspect is why Sage seem to be looking at Power BI, although as of yet the have barely scratched the surface in terms of whats been developed so far in comparison to Business Intelligence
