Sage 50 Accounts V24 upgrade problem when installed on Apple Mac using Parallels

Hi there, just thought I would post some information that I found out the hard way!  If you are running Sage 50 Accounts V23 on an Apple Mac using Parallels - and need/want to upgrade to V24,  you will need to ensure you are have Microsoft windows 10 64 bit installed.  We have been trying to upgrade and couldn't, sage was downloading but when we tried to execute/run the installation program, we received a message saying that we needed to install windows 7, 10 etc.  We already had windows 10 32bit on parallels and V23 was running fine, but V24 needed 64bit.  If there had a been a post out there like this, we could have sorted it much sooner.   Sage support doesn't support anyone using Sage with Parallels (only bootcamp).  Hope this helps out others.

  • Hi Nicola,

Thanks for providing this for our users using Parallels.

Although we do not recommend or support the installation of the program using parallels, we appreciate you posting the above workaround.

  • Hi Nicola,
I want to thank you for your help in posting this because despite the claim from Adam at Sage that they don't recommend Parallels , it was the salesman at Sage who recommended them to me in the first place a few years ago...he also omitted to tell me I would need to buy standalone windows software as well. His advice (aimed to reassure me that renewing my sage contract made sense )has cost me endless frustration and cost and I now realise I should either have changed software or saved money by buying another computer as Parallels for me has been a complete joke and despite paying a monthly subscription I can't seem to keep my software up to date without a degree in computing science....
I hope somebody posts something that will help you too Nicola
    best wishes
    Simon
