Turn off all dashboard and process maps and Don't Display welcome screen settings not sticking.

SUGGESTED

I am using Sage Instant Accounts 21.5.9.201 on Windows 10. I was reading through one of the books on how to use Sage and it mentioned Process Maps and Dashboards which are by default now switched off. To turn them on the checkboxes for both settings must be unchecked. The settings are under Tools> Options> View Tab> Global Settings Sections and three options are listed underneath it; Turn off all dashboards, Turn off all process maps and Don't display welcome screen. The first two are by default checked.  The third setting is by default unchecked. However, when I change them they work temporarily, that is until I restart Sage. Why don't these settings stick?

    Hi Hiten.

There aren't any issues regarding the process maps and dashboard so they should hold the setting.

If they aren't, the first thing you should look to do is delete the criteria files. To do this, make a note of the username you're logging in to Sage with and follow the steps in this guide: 34474

the process asks me to check the server of the Sage Data Service Manager. But this is blank. Do I need to have Data Service Manager running. I am the sole bookkeeper and there is only one computer in this business. Could this be the reason that there is no server listed in Data Service Manager? Or is this incorrect? Anyway I checked the AccData and there weren't any files starting with "username". There was one file in the Criteria which I deleted. Anyway this didn't work. I didn't however delete my username. I thought I should stop and enquire further regarding the Data Server Manager. As I don't really understand its purpose.

    Hi Hiten

In Sage Accounts v21 and above, the Sage Accounts Data Service runs on the computer or server where your Sage Accounts data is held. The service controls the reading and writing of data. Using this service increases the robustness of the system, improves data security and helps to optimise performance.

The Sage Accounts Data Service automatically installs and starts when you install your software. This includes installation on single computers and network installations where the software is installed on the computer or server that holds the data.

If your data is held on a server that doesn't have a copy of Sage 50 Accounts, you must install the service separately.

Please find full details of how to install and start the service here.

So, since my Data Service manager has no server listed what should I do? Apparently I should contact the IT administrator, but that's me. And my data is stored on the same computer.

    Hi Hiten

    1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard.
    2. Enter services.msc, click OK then in the list of services look for the following services:

    Sage Accounts v21

    • Sage 50 Accounts Service
    • Sage 50 Accounts Control

If the services don't appear or show a status of Starting, please refer to article 36725.

    1. If either service shows Disabled in the Startup Type column, right-click the service, click Properties, in the Startup type drop-down click Automatic, then click OK.
    2. For each service, right-click the service, click Stop, right-click the service again, then click Start.

I did this. Both Services were there running and set to Automatic. I stopped them and started them and checked if the settings are sticking. Still not. Back to the Sage Data Service Manager, the fact that the server is blank and I'm unable to start or stop it from the Service Manager Program, could this have anything to do with the settings not sticking?

    Hi Hiten

If the service state says stopping and doesn't actually stop, you can follow the steps below to force the service to stop. Alternatively, you can restart the machine mentioned in the error message. If you're unsure about restarting your server, please speak to your IT administrator.

Note: You can stop the service using the command prompt, however, if the service is in use, this can cause corruption. This should be done as a last resort, and you must check your data once you're back in Sage Accounts.

    1. Press the Windows Key > type cmd > right click the cmd.exe > choose Run as administrator.
    2. Enter the following, depending on your version:
      Sage Accounts v24 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v24.exe
      Sage Accounts v23 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v23.exe
      Sage Accounts v22 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v22.exe
      SAge Accounts v21 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc.exe
    3. Press Enter.

Note: The following should be done as a last resort, because if the service is in use, it can cause corruption.

If the service state seems seems to be stuck on starting, you can follow the steps below to force the service to stop and try again. Alternatively, you can restart the machine mentioned in the error message. If you're unsure about restarting your server, please speak to your IT administrator.

Once you're back in Sage, you should check your data for errors.

      1. Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Delete > Start Task Manager > Processes tab.
      2. Select the Show processes from all users.
      3. End the following relevant services:
    Version Image Name Description
    Sage Accounts v24 sg50svc_v24.exe Sage 50 Accounts Service v24
    sg50ctrlsvc_v24.exe Sage 50 Accounts Control Service v24
    Sage Accounts v23 sg50svc_v23.exe Sage 50 Accounts Service v23
    sg50ctrlsvc_v23.exe Sage 50 Accounts Control Service v23
    Sage Accounts v22 sg50svc_v22.exe Sage 50 Accounts Service v22
    sg50ctrlsvc_v22.exe Sage 50 Accounts Control Service v22
Sage Accounts v21 sg50svc.exe Sage 50 Accounts Service
sg50ctrlsvc.exe Sage 50 Accounts Control Service

My Data service wasn't being flagged to me as a problem by Sage. Instead I uninstalled Sage totally and reinstalled it. Those settings still don't stick. Are we sure this isn't a fault in the 2014/15 Sage Instant Accounts? Could this problem be with my User account, because that is automatically restored even after reinstalling, I don't need to tell Sage to restore all my data.

On another note. The DVD of Sage that I have is useless. When I install from it I receive a warning saying that my data was using a newer version of Sage than that which I have installed and that I will need to update it. So I agree to update and then it fails. Then nothing happens. Even if I try to start Sage I get no response. So I had to uninstall that version and I have instead installed from the download option available on the website. I have no idea how long that will be available for. But that is a little worrying.

I am still having problems with this. I have deleted the criteria files as per instructions. I have also realised that the data service can be accessed from within Sage Instant Accounts as opposed to from the start menu, and when I do this the server address is filled in and can be started and stopped. I have fully removed Sage as per the instruction on this website and when I reinstall I am again presented with the Manager Username still there and all my data back, without me having to manually do a restore. Clearly, the uninstall even via manually deleting countless files is still leaving my user files. And going through the menu to remove/delete the user name from within Sage doesn't let me. I get a warning saying I need to be logged off. I am thinking it is the user name which is corrupted and that's why the settings do not stick. But I can't seem to find where the user name files are stored. So I can delete them and make a new one and then restore from a backup. My version of Sage is only a one user licence, so I am not able to just add another user. And there are no instructions on how to remove this user. I would appreciate some help. My next step is to install this Sage on another computer and see if the problem persists. However, I am doing this reluctantly after seeing how Sage files are never truly removed.

    Update

I have freshly installed Sage from the DVD and have successfully applied the latest update, service Pack 8, to a computer that has never had Sage or any other accounting software on it. The problem persists. I think this is conclusive evidence to make the claim that Sage Instant Accounts v21 has a fault in that 3 settings do not stick after closing the program. I did test it after backing up this data too. To no avail. Also I tested it before the update was downloaded and installed. It made no difference. It would be nice of Sage to admit this now. Especially after them insisting this isn't a known fault. I have tried to call them numerous times, however, they are unable to offer any help unless I pay a ridiculous some of purchasing new software from them and receive a year's worth of telephone support with that package. This is poor service and doesn't give much confidence in their own product.
