PDF File Size

Why is the PDF file that Sage produces so big ?

When we create order acknowledgements using our own forms created using report designer, the file size produced for emailing is 1MB for a single A4 page, yet if I save the file and use the Adobe Acrobat File Reduce option to reduce the file size, the produced PDF shrinks drastically to around 30K without detriment to the contents.

Can't Sage use a better PDF creation application or at least implement file size reduction during the creation process.

Another strange things is, that if I choose to print using my Adobe Printer rather than email PDF directly using Sage, the document produced has missing elements, meaning you have to use the Sage PDF writer if you want the PDF to look like you want it to.

This is very frustrating and with us on a poor internet network connection thanks to BT, it kills the server when sending multiple emails as the file size for each email is too large.

Please look into this and remedy the PDF writer tool.

  • Hi Sean,

I have tested exporting one of our standard Statement layouts (STATALLPLAINA4) to PDF and the file size is 6.40kb for one customer statement.

If yours is larger then this, it may be for multiple customers or have a lot of formatting applied which will naturally make the PDF file size larger.

Sage will just export the file and save it as a PDF file, we cannot integrate the Adobe File Reduce options as this is an Adobe feature.

I will however send your feedback to our development team for future consideration.

Regarding your second query, can you let me know what happens when you use the Export button to produce a PDF? Is the formatting still all there?

You can download a PDF printer via www.cutepdf.com > Products > CutePDF Writer > Free Download.

Once installed, please try printing your PDF to this printer and let me know if the formatting is still missing and what specifically has been removed.

    Kind Regards,

    Adam
