Does anyone else other than me use the ODBC link to Excel? For analysis, reporting and keeping control it is brilliant

  • Peter,

I have not used the ODBC link before as I have not been using Sage for long but it is something I will be looking to use in the future.

  • Hello John,

I find it brilliant for analysis and problem solving as it allows you to link to any data in any of the Ledgers and once the link is established any changes in your Sage data automatically flow through to your spreadsheet.  Also as the linked data is in a spreadsheet format you can add columns, formulas, filters etc..(in additional cells) to do calculations - and, all the additional columns, calculations are preserved also each time your data is updated.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

I have been looking to use ODBC but am having problems setting it up using a 64-bit windows OS (architecture mismatch error). Unfortunately no-one at Sage seems willing to help me sort it saying it is an excel issue.

    Regards

    Mike

  • Hello Mike,

What version of Sage Accounts are you using?

What version of Excel are you using?

    Regards,

    Peter

  • I am having the same issue can anyone help with the set up?

  • I've just started using this link too, and as the above have said, it is great for getting at the data and properly digging into it in an environment we all recognise.

However, I would personally like to go one stage further and use the ODBC driver to link directly into an MS SQL Server database so that I can match live SAGE data to other company data stored in the database.

I've tried doing this a few times and although setting up the link to EXCEL is easy, the link to SQL Server is very difficult and I am yet to find a definitive article anywhere that would help me with this.

Has anyone out there achieved this yet and know of a good article I can read ?

  • Hi Peter, if you are still here. I am using Sage 50 v21 and Excel2016. I am having the same problem. I tried to overcome it by using ODBC data source for 32-bit (as opposed to 64-bit), but it is not making any difference. I don't know what to do.

  • Hi Paul,
Did you hear from the guys in Office Support?
    Thanks.
  • Hi Anna,

The advice from our Office Support team is that 64-bit versions of Excel are not supported with Sage Excel Integrated Reporting (EIR).

Full info on the supported versions of Excel for EIR here.
