On April 19th 2016 new legislation comes into place for the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). In response to this, the CIS module in Sage 50 Accounts is being updated. The updated functionality will be released in v22.2, so to use the updated module you must be using v22.

What is changing and when?:

CIS legislation is changing initially on April 19 2016. The following changes apply:

• CIS Returns must be filed online.

• You need to be able to amend mistakes in previously submitted CIS Returns and resubmit corrected returns online to HMRC.

• There is a new online appeals process.

• Nil returns are no longer mandatory.

From April 2017:

• Compulsory online verification of subcontractors.

The new Sage 50 CIS module is fully compliant with the changes and will be compliant with future changes. You can read more about the new CIS module here:

I am in the same situation as Alan, have been using the CIS module happily for many years, then received the same marketing call to say that the software would no longer be compliant after 19th April as the changes outlined above would come into effect. I am already doing all of this, have yet to submit an amendment or an appeal. I too was offered the deal of 24 months for the price of 22, assuming that it would not start until after the 19th April ie for the first return period ending 5th May. Instead I found an invoice in the accounts area of my Sage starting from the 18th February when the call was made. The invoice was not even sent to me just found it by chance. So the free two months was for something that was not even available to use. After much complaining I was refunded £20.
