Sage Help Centre – CIS. We need your help!

We're constantly adding to and improving the Sage Help Centre. The next topic to be added is the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). If you currently use the CIS module in Sage 50 Accounts we’d love to hear your thoughts about what this topic should concentrate on.

  • Are there any specific areas of the topic that you need more help with?
  • What can we include that would help you most effectively?
  • Have you had CIS questions in the past that you’ve needed to refer to Sage Technical Support?

  • I have been using the CIS module since it was first introduced so I have a fair bit of experience, so here are a few things that would help improve/enhance the module;

    1. No Company Name on CIS Monthly Return

    When we print off the submitted CIS Return (in Archives) there is no Company Name shown on the report/return. As we use multi companies, then there is no way of knowing which company the report relates to once its printed off, so each month I have to write the company name on each printed return. This should be an easy fix by inserting the Company name onto the report (an amended that Sage would have to do as this is a fixed/program report that we cannot amend). Ideally if we took this a stage further, this report would be great if it also had the HMRC filing details on like you get with the VAT Return (see Submission Confirmation)

    2. Part Payments

    Sage will not allow part payments to subcontractors. This is frustrating meaning we have to delete things or put on dummy credits to cancel the entered invoices and then re-enter the invoices as separate amounts to be able to part pay an invoice.

    Thanks for getting in touch. It's great to get feedback from people who are using the CIS module. I've submitted your suggestions to our software developers for consideration in future builds and in the meantime I'll make sure we cover these areas in the new Help Centre area we're creating.

    Regarding the missing name on the CIS Return, you might find Ask Sage article 29338 useful. It explains how to edit the Contractor Monthly Return in order to add the company name.
