We sell clothing and they have more variables than Sage Line 50 can cope with.

We need to differentiate by product, colour, size and quantity.  How can we add this extra functionality?

  • Hi Steven
Thank you for your post. I have passed this question over to our knowledge team to see if they can give you an answer to this.

    Many thanks

  • Hi Steven,

I'm really sorry, unfortunately the functionality you've requested isn't available in Sage Accounts.

As the software is an off the shelf product, sometimes it doesn't meet everyone's needs. However, we're always very keen to understand our customer's needs for future development, so I've logged your feedback with our Research and Development Team for consideration in future releases of our software.

In the meantime you could consider upgrading to our Sage 200 software, which is customisable software. You can find more info on this here: www.sage.co.uk/Sage-200
  • Hi Paul, thanks for the reply. Selling products like this has quite a following and I would have expected Sage to have offered this as an option. When I bought into Sage some 10 years ago the sales person said that it was something that was being looked into. I guess all of the clothing retailers distributors and manufacturers aren't a large enough segment of the customer base you wanted to attract, which I find surprising.
  • Sage 200 is quite expensive by comparison and the textile trade typically runs on small margins.
  • What you can do is setup a product code naming convention that would make the sorting of sizes easy.

    What we have done is

    MainKSKU-Size-Waist-Neck-Chest-Colour

    eg

    32234-14-0-14-36-Black

From this one can easily read the dimensions and look up works well.

Most systems would set up like this because you need to keep stock of every variant.

The important thing is to think out your SKU naming convention before you start and making sure alll products and options will fit.
