Hi,
I'm looking for some advise on relocating Sage 50 Accounts company data. I'm an IT Engineer for the City of Glasgow College. We deliver Sage 50 Accounts via thin clients on a shared-desktop experience, approx. 30 user sessions per desktop. This causes problems with both Sage Payroll and Sage Accounts, where if multiple users are using the software sanctimoniously on the same shared desktop, then problems occur as the company data is stored in the same location inside C:\programdata.
I managed to create a workaround for Sage Payroll, where I created a script which redirects the Sage Payroll company data to the users H: (home drive). This works well, but I can't seem to do this for Sage 50 Accounts as the Sage Data Service needs to be installed on the machine hosting the Company Data? Is it possible to point Accounts to company data stored on a network share, without needing to have the Sage Data Service installed on the remote machine? Alternatively, is there any other method of avoiding the conflict of multiple users sanctimoniously using the software and company data?
When I try to use Sage Accounts with Company Data on a network share, I receive the following message:
Connection Error
Unable to connect to the Sage Data Service on machine remotemachine. This could be due to the following reasons:
- The data service has stopped running on remotemachine.
- remotemachine cannot be found. It may be switched off or disconnected from the network.
- Sage Accounts has been upgraded on remotemachine and the upgrade must also be installed on this computer.
The Sage services are running on the end-user desktop, but are not installed on the host which hosts the network share.
Regards,
Richard
