There is no password configuration available in Sage 50 Accounts currently I'm afraid. 

Ok cool, do you know what the system is auto configured to be i.e are there any rules in place? Could I choose any password?

The only rule is that a password must be no more than 32 characters. Other than that the world is your oyster in terms of setting a password.

So if I so wanted to I could have my password as 'a'. Do you know if it differentiates between upper and lowercase characters? 

Also do you know where I could find any documentation surrounding this?

The recommendation (as per the tool tip in the dialog in Accounts) is to have a password of at least 10 characters but that is just a recommendation and not enforced so could be as short as a single character. Bear in mind that short passwords are easy to crack so you'd not want to set a short/simple password on any live data

The only documentation that I'm aware of is what is in the online help that you get by pressing F1. That doc does mention that the password isn't case-sensitive although it is slightly out of date as it suggests the maximum length is 10 when it is actually 32. The Accounts UI does let you enter and use a password up to 32 characters so I'll raise that with our knowledge management team to get it corrected in the help file. Beyond the help files there may be Ask Sage articles and/or videos on our YouTube channel covering passwords but I'm not aware of any specific ones myself.

Thank you for your detailed response. That helps me a lot!

Isn't there any configuration where one can change the passowrd complexity such as minimum length and type of characters to be used? At the moment even a single character can be set as a password which is not good for such a financial application.

Unfortunately there is currently no way to set policies around password complexity not but you could log it as an idea here for something we can consider in the future: www.sagecity.com/.../sage-50-accounts-and-sage-50cloud-accounts-ideas (it would certainly get an up vote from me!)
