Settings folder data path on C: - backup manager lists an extra company data folder - Is it this settings folder?

SUGGESTED

Hi

I have a single user, 2 company version of Sage 50cloud accounts installed.

On installation I chose to have the 2 companies installed on my D drive.

I notice in 'About' that 'settings' (for both companies) are stored on the C: drive in c:\programdata\sage\accounts and, as expected the two company's data are stored on the D drive in their respective folders.

I have set up scheduled backups and when I go to settings within the backup manager, it lists five company data folders to backup as follows:

My two companies data folders on D: are listed.

The practice company and demo data folders are listed on C:

But there is one more company data folder listed in c:\programdata\sage\accounts\2021\company.000

This isn't the settings data path mentioned above as that is a folder above in the path name. So what is it? Is it a default company that Sage installed on install?

My quesion is, can I uncheck this company being backed up or is it related to the settings mentioned in 'About' and therefore should be backed up?

I hope that makes sense!

Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hello Neal.

    Thanks for using Sage City.

You can uncheck this folder, I think it'll just be backing up because it sees that as a usual data folder (where normally data would sit).

Unchecking it won't cause any harm though. The one thing you'll want to do is go to Settings>Company Preferences>Reports and tick use data path for reports as it'll mean any custom reports get stored there (if you have any currently, we can relocate them).

    Hope this helped.

    Hi Lee,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I don't have a 'data paths' option in Settings>Company Preferences>Reporting. I believe this is because I am a single user Sag50 installation?

What I am confused about is that all layouts seem to be stored in each company's folder on D:, but reports are stored in the C: folder I mention in my post (i.e. c:\programdata\sage\accounts\2021\company.000)

    For example,

In Customers, 'Overdue Invoice' report is stored in the c:\programdata\sage\accounts\2021\company.000\reports\...

But layouts such as 'A4 Statement' are stored in my company layouts folder on the D drive.

So this leads me to think I should include this C folder in the backup as it seems to be where reports are stored.

Is it because I have 2 companies and they both use the C folder for their reports?

It's not problem backing it up. I just would like to know so that if I ever have to restore, then I know what is stored where.

    Thanks

    Hello.

Layouts do store in the company folder, you are right. Reports can be but the option does only appear when multiple people connect.

Do you use/create custom reports? If you don't I wouldn't worry about it as those files/folders are nothing really. If you do, every month or so, you could take a reports only backup which I would opt for over backing up multiple files you don't need.

Any other questions, give me a shout Slight smile
