Work off-line, and why didn't it work with todays Sage Identity outage?

SUGGESTED

So Sage Identity had a global outage today.  Starting Sage popped up an Authenticating box that was blank, closed this box and then presented with the choice to work off-line.  Great I thought, until I clicked it, and was put back into the Authenticating blank box.  This loop was seemingly never ending, so closed Sage in the end.

The question is, why doesn't work off-line mean actually let me work off-line?  What is it still trying talk to?

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

I'm sorry about the problems you experienced this morning with Sage ID and the remote working option. Hopefully I can shed a little light on how this could happen.

In normal circumstances you can work offline without issue and then re-sync your data when you reconnect. The option to do this relies upon a token that is authenticated silently every 8 hours. This authenticated token needs to be in place when you opt to work offline.

Unfortunately, when you tried to work remotely, the token needed to be authenticated but the Sage ID service was not available to do that, hence the loop you became stuck in.

The service is back now, and we're monitoring it closely to ensure stability, once again I'm sorry for any inconvenience this outage may have caused.

    Regards,

    Andy
