Send to excel - MS365 apps for business

SOLVED

We have been upgraded to Microsoft 365 Apps for business. 64bit.

Which is great as we now have all the latest features however the Send to Excel Button is now not working.

Found a help page that links to a compatibility checker but the link does not work.

Can any one help?

Unfortunately 64 bit Office is not currently supported for the send to Excel functionality. It is possible to use the export to Excel options for reports and to send emails via 64 bit Outlook though.

    Hope that helps

    Hi

I had the desktop installation of office 2019 64 bit before. the send to excel button worked then.

i understand that Excel Integrated reporting does not work for the 64bit but the send to excel button did work. its just not working any more now i have office365 apps for business version

The option to send to Excel from a ledger view has only ever worked with 32 bit versions of Office, but the send to Excel option from the report browser or with Report Designer should work just fine with 64 bit.

When you say that it is not working do you get some kind of error message?

If i am in a supplier / customer window or nominal window there is a button along the top called Send to Excel. that has always worked for me even on 64bit 2019 office.

If i click it now it says Failed to connect to excel - if i click ok it goes through the motions of looking like it is copying to excel like it used to but the excel file does not appear

That button can never have worked with a 64 bit version of Excel as it uses COM to interop with Excel. Sage 50 Accounts is a 32 bit process so can only create 32 bit COM objects. It is impossible for it to create a 64 bit one.

The message you get currently saying that the app has failed to connect is exactly what I'd expect if you have a 64 bit version of Office installed. The application is simply unable to communicate with Excel via COM.

The only workaround would be to use the send to Excel option from the report browser or Report Designer as this does not use COM and instead generates an Excel file directly and simply launches that.
