Just to add to the above advice it is worth noting that, as you have found, if you are configuring email options from within the 50 Accounts application (Settings -> Email Defaults) the only options that are shown are Outlook and web mail (essentially SMTP):

I'm not entirely sure why MAPI is not listed in this screen as it most certainly can be used and has been supported by Report Designer (the component that will actually deals with generating the report and attaching/sending the email) has supported MAPI from it's first release back in 2007 and continues to support it now:

So in short it looks like a UI based restriction with the option not being surfaced in 50 Accounts but you could work around this by setting the email properties directly on each report/layout.
